If Cappadocia, Turkey is known for anything aside from its world-renowned sunrise hot air balloon flights and otherworldly landscape, it is its unique cave hotels. Regardless of budget, all tourists are able to afford this one-of-a-kind hotel experience, but for those more discerning travelers, there is The Museum Hotel.

The Museum Hotel is less than two miles from central Göreme and, like all of the neighboring hotels, fits organically into its surroundings and offers guests a true “cave hotel” experience.

The difference is in the expansive, luxurious property, the discerning details & amenities and the 5-star hospitality offered by the hotel’s 55 staff members. The Museum Hotel is the only Relais and Chateau property in Turkey and has been awarded the Best Luxury Boutique Hotel in Europe by the World Luxury Hotel Awards.

The hotel is also set apart by its’ unrivaled history. The ruins and antiques that comprise the hotel are not meant to be kitschy; they actually date back thousands of years. The vases, statues and pots placed around the property and behind glass in the rooms & suites are relics of ancient Cappadocia, and the ruins, like the archway and pillars on the main patio, are original fixtures of the area.

Entering The Museum Hotel, you first walk out onto the open-air patio, where you can grab a drink from the bar, smoke flavorful shisha or enjoy traditional Turkish cuisine for lunch. You can indulge in a swim in the beautiful infinity pool and admire the panoramic views of Göreme, Red Valley and Pigeon Valley.

The mezze is a must-order at The Museum Hotel!

As you wander around the property, you’ll encounter a family of turtles, beautiful white doves, colorful peacocks and one cute puppy named Joe. It’s an animal lover’s paradise!

Then, head to your suite, which you will unlock with a physical key…

I had the absolute pleasure of staying in Tekeli, a Superior Suite, equipped with a large bed, sitting area with a fireplace, huge open-plan bathroom and large jacuzzi.

This suite starts at $400, however, the museum has options for all budgets, with a Deluxe Room starting at $250 and a Deluxe Suite starting at $260. More costly accommodations, like the Spa and Imperial Suites, start at $500 and $550, respectively. But they’re worth the steep price – most are equipped with wall wine taps (you read that right!), massage rooms and private gardens. The Museum Hotel has 30 rooms and suites and, like any good boutique hotel, no two are the same.

As for my Tekeli Superior Suite, I’ll let the pictures do the talking:

Nothing better than a hot bubble bath with views of Cappadocia!

Normally a king bed, the hotel separated it into two to accommodate my friend and me.

This antique phone is your room’s telephone and is in perfect working shape!

Upon arrival, I was gifted a bottle of The Museum Hotel‘s house made wine, desserts and a small plate of Turkish delights. I was also grateful for amenities like an expansive pillow menu and a booklet of common Turkish/English phrases.

Aside from a gorgeous property, The Museum Hotel also boasts one of the best fine-dining restaurants in Cappadocia. Be sure to dine at Lil’a at least one night during your stay to enjoy a taste of traditional Cappadocia cuisine.

There are hotels that are nothing more than a place to rest your head at night. And then there are hotels like The Museum Hotel – magical properties that leave an imprint on your memory, raise your standards for what good hospitality means and add something truly invaluable to your travel experience.
