Waking up to the soothing sound of crashing waves, I rose from bed and peeled back the curtains to look outside. Beautiful orange, red and yellow tones streamed through my window and I smiled at the promise of a day of blue skies and strong sun. Whether I spent my afternoon horseback riding or relaxing on the beach, I knew that Sea Horse Ranch would guarantee I had the perfect day…
Sea Horse Ranch is so much more than a resort. Yes, it is a gated neighborhood with 15+ villas available for rent. But it also boasts a fine-dining waterfront restaurant, a tennis club and seaside pools & waterfalls. More than that, an on-site organic farm and equestrian center for private beach rides.

The Ranch is set in the perfect location. It’s a convenient twenty minutes from Puerto Plata’s international airport and less than ten minutes from Cabarete, a small sea-side town on Dominican Republic’s North coast. During the day, Cabarete is the perfect place for beach relaxation or for wandering the streets filled with restaurants, bars and shops. At night, Cabarete becomes a great spot for nightlife when all of the beach clubs open up their doors around 10pm.
I stayed in the Villa Ataraxia, a 5-bedroom and 6-bathroom villa perched right on the coast of the Atlantic. Every detail of the house was luxurious and perfectly tasteful.
Ataraxia boasts tall ceilings, Mexican terra cotta tile floors, dark mahogany woodwork and granite countertops. There is an expansive oceanfront lawn and an outdoor pool that overlooks the ocean, as well as a large outdoor patio perfect for relaxing with a book or enjoying breakfast.

The on-site farm, called Villa Organica Garden is, as the name suggests, recently certified USDA organic. Villa Organica harvests delicious goodies like tomatoes, pumpkin, mustard greens, sweet pepper, kale, arugula, eggplant and more.
You can swing by Villa Organica from 4 – 6 pm on Tuesdays, Thursday and Saturdays to purchase produce and hopefully meet Carlos Juan Rodriguez, the mastermind and gardener behind the farm. He will be more than willing to explain what makes the food they grow certified organic and maybe even explain why he eats caterpillars on a daily basis 😉 Hint: they’re super healthy!
Sea Horse Ranch also hosts a once monthly Full Moon dinner, where they serve delicious meals made entirely from the food grown in the garden. The dinners are normally hosted at Villa Organica and are open to anyone staying at Sea Horse Ranch, but during my visit, I had the pleasure of attending a Full Moon dinner right in my own villa!
The decor was beautiful and the food was fresh and healthy. There is something truly fantastic about knowing the ingredients in the delicious babaganoush, kale salad and chicken lettuce wraps you’re eating were grown less than a mile away…
With each villa boasting at least 4 bedrooms, Sea Horse Ranch is the perfect place for a getaway with your friends! Skip Punta Cana and head straight to Cabarete.
What would your perfect day at Sea Horse Ranch look like?

I Have actually heard of this resort in Cabarete and have had it saved for a future DR trip. But after seeing the organic farm and tennis club, I am ready to pack my bags now!
So funny you already had the resort saved! Let me know if/when you end up going 🙂
